HENRY, HELEN, AND HANK GIVE A PERFORMANCE

Beautiful Autumn Day.

Morse sold a Knights Table

Model Radio to Floyd Bergy.

Attended the Membership Supper

for the P.T.A. at L.A.S. Hall.

About 50 in attendance.

Good supper + good program.

For supper escalloped potatoes,

meat loaf, cabbage salad, jelly

pickles, cake + jello.

Henry, Helen + Hank gave two

numbers on harmonica, piano +

guitar.

In January, Morse spent several weeks in Chicago attending the Coyne Electrical and Radio School. Coyne Electrical School of Chicago was established in 1899 and became one of the largest and most famous schools of its kind in the United States, primarily training electricians. As technology advanced they also trained students in radio repair and television service & repair. In 2010, Coyne formally became Coyne College. It still exists today in the heart of Chicago's business district.

Several months later, it seems Morse is using his new skills to repair and sell radios. My father recalls that at one point, Morse had set up shop in the basement of the Johnson farm. We can't be certain if Morse sold Floyd Bergy a brand new radio or a radio he had repaired. We do know, thanks to Edna's entry, that it was a Knight table radio. The image shown here is a circa 1936 Knight table radio that likely resembles the radio Floyd purchased.

The Ladies Aid Society (L.A.S.) Hall is located across the street from the family farm. Today, although relocated on that same piece of property, the L.A.S. hall has been restored and serves as a museum documenting the history of Bowne Township.

Oh how I would have enjoyed attending this particular dinner and seeing my great grandfather (Henry), great aunt (Helen), and great uncle (Hank) perform on the harmonica, piano, and guitar.
