EDNA LISTENS TO POLITICAL SPEECHES

Listened to political speeches by

Landon, Roosevelt.

Three days before the 1936 election, President Franklin Roosevelt defends the New Deal in a speech he gives to roaring crowd at Madison Square Garden.

“The forces of ‘organized money’ are unanimous in their hate for me – and I welcome their hatred."

The speech is regarded as a powerful expression of American Liberalism. Historian Kenneth S. Davis said it was "one of the great political speeches in American history."

LISTEN to President Roosevelt's October 31, 1936 speech.

When Edna married Henry in 1902, women did not have the right to to vote. I was able to vote at the age of 18. Edna did not have that right until she was 40.

Edna is not down with Roosevelt or American Liberalism. Her vote went to Alf Landon.

My great grandmother and I would likely have been at odds over the 1936 election. Perhaps we would be at odds over the 2020 election as well. I am okay with that. She had the right to vote and she did.
