The Alto Creamery stood until 1997 but it had long ceased to be in use. I always remember it being an abandoned building.
The Creamery began in 1901 as a cheese factory. In 1911 their butter took first place out of 100 entries at the State Fair. It has been noted that they once churned out 746 thousand pounds of butter in a single year.

In the 1920’s and 30’s it was not unusual to feed 500 – 600 people at the annual Creamery Dinner held at the Alto Grange Hall.
This is the dinner that Edna attended in 1936 with Ella Nash.
Doris Benton Lass was just 18 when she had her daughter Marlene on this day in 1936. Doris married Burdette Lass when she was just 16. Marlene was her second child. Doris and Burdette were divorced just one month shy of Marlene's first birthday. Doris remarried and had a son by the age 25. She passed away in 2019 and was preceded in death by all three of her children and her second husband.
