ELECTION DAY

Election Day. The biggest vote
ever in the U.S. — Reports over
radio to-night all give
Roosevelt the lead. It makes
me sick all over, desperately
afraid that the Rep. candidate
Landon will not win.
L.A.S. served a lovely dinner
to-day. Proceeds from dinner $33.00.
Clara, Louise, and I served the
supper for the town board.
Had a euchre party here to-night.
Pete Stahl, Cor, Mr. Alderink + Henry and
Lucy Stahl, Clara, Mrs. Alderink + I.
Mrs. A. + I won. Served popcorn and
cake. Morse went after Gladys and
Will so they could vote.
Nice day - but quite windy.
Henry went to Grand Rapids to-
day.
Today, we are all probably feeling a little like Edna...worried that our candidate won't win.
What does she do to feel better? She has a euchre party and serves popcorn and cake. That sounds like a perfect way to watch the returns come in tonight so I am headed to store soon to get popcorn. I, however, am going to have a little wine instead of cake. I will have to settle for a few rousing hands of euchre on my phone.
I went all the way through school with Julie Alderink. She happens to be the great grand daughter of the Mr. and Mrs. Alderink (Ben and Maude) who played euchre with my great grand parents on this day eighty-four years ago. How cool is that? I had to send Julie a Facebook message and share this journal entry with her. Both of my great grandparents passed away before I was born but Ben and Maude, Julie told me, lived to be 100 and 103 respectively. She said she has very fond memories of both of them.

I found an item in a 1974 publication of the Lowell Ledger sharing news about Ben and Maude celebrating their 78th wedding anniversary.
Finally, I love that Morse took Gladys and Will to vote. If anyone needs a ride to the polls today, let me (or someone nearby) know.
